As David Schildknect enthused in the Wine Advocate, the 2011 Omero Pinot Noirs from Ribbon Ridge were among the most exciting debut releases from this most prestigious and expensive Oregon appellation. Winemaker Sarah Cabot (a Berkelee College of Music gread who learned her craft at Willakenzie and Belle Pente) made three barrels of this special cuvee which is showing amazingly like a top red Burgundy now.

Named Colis (latin for “stem”), it was fermented with 40% stems and whole clusters, a la Romanee-Conti, for greater structure and complexity. And it has both in spades!

Cabot only made 75 cases of this very special beauty, and we’re the only place to have any. But the best price anywhere for her regular 2011 Omero Estate Pinot is $57.25, in Seattle.

But we have a small amount of this superbly rendered Oregon Pinot benchmark for only $29.99.

Tasting like a very high caliber mature red Burgundy (though with the firm structure to go at least another 5 years), I can guarantee you that you won’t find another $30 Pinot Noir – from anywhere – quite like this.

This is why winemakers, wine lovers and serious wine writers all gravitate to Pinot Noir.
