Nick Goldschmidt is well known for ferreting out the very best small vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, making superb wines from them and then offering them at prices WAY below anyone else in their area. But even more so, keeping them a closely guarded secret.
Here’s how secret this one is. The Wine Enthusiast, which raved over it, said it’s from Yountville. The tech sheet says just outside Calistoga. And our supplier (who I trust) says Oakville. What we do know is it’s from quite old (35 years) Cabernet Sauvignon vines (100%), pick by hand at low yields, classically vinified in 100% French oak (half new) and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
And I also know this will surpass ANY $25 Napa Cabernet you can find. And most at twice that price. Like all the Goldschmidt reds, it manages to offer full, rich, utterly delicious Napa Valley fruit with an unusual grace, elegance and class.
