British wine writer Jancis Robinson has called the Fabre Montmayou Grand Vin the single greatest wine of South America. But as our customers know, the real star from Fabre is their even more limited Pretty Malbec – the only wine they make entirely from their top vineyard, planted in 1908. (The Grand Vin is 85% Malbec from this vineyard.)
In the 2016 vintage, the top Argentine vintage in Parker’s chart, Fabre’s Pretty is simply awesome. The color is the deepest purple I’ve seen, and the concentration and power are off the charts.
But the most amazing thing, as always, is the price. NO other Argentine single-vineyard Malbec of this quality or pedigree sells for less than $100…and many are now several times that price. But as our blind tastings have repeatedly shown, the Pretty Malbec wipes the floor with these wines.
